Motorsport UK

Silverstone MotorSport UK preview

Silverstone MotorSport UK will be showcasing all varieties and levels of national motorsport including some of the biggest and most diverse names from British motorsport, as the UK’s most exciting motorsport event builds on its highly successful launch in 2011.

The event, which sets out to promote all categories and types of national racing, takes place this weekend (3rd and 4th November) in the prestigious Silverstone Wing exhibition complex at Silverstone Circuit, the Home of British Motor Racing.

Silverstone MotorSport UK has been designed to appeal specifically to those who are looking to get involved in club motorsport and provide individuals with the chance to meet manufacturers, clubs, teams and suppliers to discuss their next racing steps.

If you are new to motorsport and looking to get involved there are no shortage of places to start! Though we would suggest that the British Motorsport Marshals Club is a very worthy starting point, because without the support of marshals up and down the country, there simply would be no motorsport. Alternatively the Go Motorsport team will be on hand on their prominent stand to provide advice and insight into getting involved in motorsport; from driving, spectating or helping.

Karting is seen by many as one of the ways to start in motorsport, and Silverstone MotorSport UK has secured the support of some of the best known karting names in the industry including British Superkarts. The British Superkart Association runs the MSA British Superkart Championship and the British Superkart Racing Club organises the British GP. Those with a particular interest in karting should also head back to Silverstone on the 17th and 18th November for the UK’s largest kart show – KartMania.

For those not looking to go down the karting route, fear not as there are a lot of other options! And if you don’t already have a race car then Silverstone MotorSport UK has some of the biggest names in specialist, sports car and kit car manufacturers showcasing their latest cars, including Marcos Sportscars and MCR. In the “Kit Car Pavilion”, you’ll find a host of manufacturers including DJ Sportscars and AK Sportscars and leading magazine Total Kit Car.

Once you have your car, then joining a motorsport club is a great way to get racing and a great hub of information. There will be several of the UK’s largest motorsport clubs on hand to discuss their series and to provide a useful insight into what you need and what it takes to start racing with them, including the 750 Motor Club, Monoposto Racing Club, Red Dragon Race & Track Club, 360 Motor Racing Club, MG Car Club, and the Hovercraft Club of Great Britain.

In addition to the racing clubs, there will be a number of championships showcasing their championships, including Classic Formula Ford, RGB Champsionship, Formula Vee, Sport Specials, Fueltopia, MR2 Cup, Subaru Cup, Nippon Challenge and BMW Compact Cup.

And as well as the clubs, championships and car manufacturers a number of key suppliers will be on hand, ranging from engine and gearbox manufacturers, tool manufacturers and car cleaning products.

Silverstone MotorSport UK will also feature a ‘live’ stage presented by and Motors TV and we will be interviewing a number of 2012 champions including Michael Meadows (Porsche Carrera Cup GB), Jack Goff (Clio Cup), James Walker (VW Racing Cup), Charlie Robertson (Ginetta Jr), Henry Gilbert (Mini Challenge) and British GT frontrunner Zoe Wenham, who finished second in the GT4 class.

They will be joined by BTCC racer and Team-HARD boss Tony Gilham, Ginetta GT Supercup frontrunner Tom Ingram, upcoming Clio Cup star Josh Files, 2009 Clio Cup champion and GT racer Phil Glew, Aaron Scott who has been busy in both British GT and Britcar.

European Formula 3 star Emil Bernstoff also joins the line up with Oliver Webb who was been racing in the American Indycar feeder series in 2012 and Freddy Nordstrom, who has been racing the in the NASCAR endorsed Euro Racecar series showing some of the talent that has come up through the ranks of UK motor sport.
