A young Welsh driver competed in his first hill climb event at Llys y Fran on Sunday (12 May) thanks to the efforts of Go Motorsport’s Welsh Regional Development Officers (RDOs), Howard Davies and Ryland James.
Rhodri Evans, aged 19, took part in the first round the Junior Challenge, a new series from the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs (WAMC). He drove a Nissan Micra donated for the event by Geoff Jones Motorsport, finishing second in class and picking up the novice award.
Davies said: “We wanted to show how easy it is to compete in motorsport, and inspire youngsters to stop driving too fast on the high street and come and have fun in a controlled environment. Rhodri was a complete novice but he was full of enthusiasm, and having successfully completed the hill climb at Llys y Fran he is now talking about hiring a car to compete in other events later in the year.”
Evans was interviewed for S4C’s Ralio and will appear in tonight’s (Thursday 16 May) episode.
